Yes, I do have the eye of the tiger, thank you
Do you have some lyrics that just get your juices and legs flowing?
Corny as it might sound, that happened to me this past week while I was listening to the song that inspired millions of boys when I was a kid: “Eye of the Tiger.” Man, can Rocky Balboa sing or what!?
It was just a couple of days after my tough vacation run in Connecticut where heat combined with humidity and no liquids made for a rough six miles last Monday.
So on Wednesday night, back in the sweet thin dry air of Utah, I hit the streets again. I was doing fairly well on my run, enjoying exercise time at about 10:30 p.m., when this song came on.
Cue the guitar:
DUN!
DUN, dun, DUN!
DUN, dun, DUUUUUUUN!!!!!
Suddenly, I got pumped. Especially the part where Rocky sings about being back on his feet “just a man and his will to survive.” That was me out there on the streets. That’s me trying to get 100 pounds off for good. That’s me trying to train for an Ironman next June. That’s me running the last 15 minutes without walking!!!
That could be my theme: Just a man and his will to survive!
That will isn’t always exactly Balboa tough. But it was Wednesday, and it still seems that way.
OK, everybody, sing along with me on the last verse:
“Risin’ up, straight to the top
Had the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I’m not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive
It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s
the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
stalks his prey in the night
And he’s watching us all with the eye of the tiger!!!”
Right on! Where are my boxing gloves!?! Where’s Clubber Lang? Where’s that dude who looks like Andrei Kirilenko? Where’s a side of beef, Hulk Hogan, a bunch of steps to run up??? Bring ‘em on!!!
ADRIAANNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, what are the lyrics or songs that get your mojo going?
P.S. Here’s my gift to you today….
